China Glaze-Awakening

Contest is now closed!

It’s that time of year again! Halloween is probably my favorite “holiday” to celebrate. Also, I really enjoy watching the season change from a hot dry summer to a damp, cool fall accompanied by seeing the trees on fire as their leaves change color. The reds, golds, and oranges of the leaves as they float to the ground is certainly something every person should see themselves. :-)

In addition to the Vintage Vixen collection this fall, China Glaze has also released the limited edition collection Awakening. This collection totally makes me think of the leaves falling, Halloween, cider mills, hay rides and haunted houses! Plus, I think you’ll all be amused by what CG decided to name each of them.

I was pretty pleased with these three polishes which all covered in about three coats (shown below with no top coat).

Ick-A-Body – I wondered how similar this was to last year’s Fortune Teller, but it’s quite a bit different. This polish was packed with orange glitter in what I thought was a black jelly base. However, it looks like the base is more of an olive-y jelly. This looks so unique and wonderfully like Halloween.

Mummy May I – Now this one was another one that I thought was just a colored glitter in a black jelly base. Boy, am I bad at this! I swatched this on some paper and saw for myself that this is actually a lovely, sparkley purple glitter in a deep purple that looks black after two layers. Love it!

Zombie Zest – Ok, this one was my absolute favorite of the bunch. Simply calling it green would be a horrible understatement. It’s a shimmery, mossy green w/ flashes of yellow and gold and even blue! However, I have heard that Zombie Zest is a dupe for SpaRitual’s Optical Illusion and Orly’s It’s Not Rocket Science from their Cosmic FX collection. Either way, if you can get your hands on any of these, it would be totally worth it!

China Glaze, Vintage Vixen-Part 1

Happy Tuesday!

As you can see there are a few minor changes. They layout is a WordPress layout called Coraline. I opted to use one of my own photos for the header and it’s a squished distorted photo that I took of a roadside landscape on a highway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque in New Mexico. Hopefully this layout is a little easier to navigate and read.

SO, first up on the new, improved (and hopefully more consistent) blog, I have for you China Glaze’s Fall 2010 collection Vintage Vixen-Hotsy Totsy. This will be the first post of two for Vintage Vixen since there are actually two sets of six in the collection-Hotsy Totsy and Cat’s Meow which will go up tomorrow.

This is one of the collections I’d been really looking forward to considering the range of finishes (metallics, foils, and shimmers, oh my!) and different colors offered in the collection.

These polishes actually launched in July and have been available at Sally Beauty Supply stores, for a few weeks. I’ve been sitting on these since August, I think. Clearly, I need to be getting these sooner!

Jitterbug – KristiB, this one has your name all over it! It’s a gunmetal-y grey with a touch of blue and a little sparkley bling to punch it up a notch.

Swing Baby – Some champagne, a little silver, maybe a little gold too, a hint of pink and a touch of classy make this something I could totally see Vintage Vixen rocking out on the dance floor.

Bogie – The name makes me think of Lauren Bacall in a smokey room in a black and white movie w/ just the right lighting. The actual color seems to go w/ that theme in my mind. It’s a very rich and smoky purple with enough bling to take it out for dinner and dancing.

Hey Doll – Kind of pink, kind of mauve, I think I see some silver, and a little bit of shimmer really make think this one looks cute and sweet.

Ingrid – I’m totally in love w/ this one! It’s that taupe-y, greyish, brown or mushroom, if you will, that’s super hot right now. She’s got some golden shimmer that makes also makes her quite special. This one also sort of reminds me of its namesake; it comes across just as strong and elegant as she was.

Foxy – Foxy indeed! I keep looking at the bottle and thinking, “Meh, it’s just another red.” But then I look back at my swatches and I think, “Whoa! Hot mama!” This a great red for the fall; it’s a little bricky, a little purple, with some red and gold shimmer that just makes me think of fall.
Foxy

See anything you like? I think my top three picks are Ingrid, Bogie and Foxy.

Oh, but wait, you say! What was this you were saying about a giveaway today? Well, since I didn’t get the chance to type these posts up yesterday, you’ll have to wait for the last post of the day later tonight!

Back from my disappearance!

Good afternoon my lovelies!

First off, I wanted to apologize for my lengthy, unannounced absence. It seemed like I was just getting in to the blogging grove when work became even more hectic than usual. The work hours got longer which didn’t leave me a whole lot of time to eat dinner w/ Mr. Entropy and spend time w/ my attention deprived kitties, let alone swatch, photograph, edit photos and type up a post.

However, I think I’ve gotten the hang of things now and have a backlog of things I need to post, so I think sustaining a few posts every week will now be feasible. I’ve also got a (kind of) new layout change planned for the actual first post back (one that has product photos and not just
text and cat pix). Oh, and if you read this far, then you’ll be excited to hear that b/c of your patience, you’ll be rewarded with the opportunity to enter my first ever giveaway tomorrow. Trust me, you’ll want to read tomorrow’s posts!

Anyways, that’s all. I’ll be working on this week’s posts tonight; this is gonna be a a full week!

Kitty (aka Sir Charles) has implored demanded that I ignore the technical stuff and pay more attention to him the blog!:

Bling-tastic Tuesday…or Wednesday Vol. 4

CHEESECAKE!!!!!

Do I have your attention yet? Ok, well, if not, here’s a giant photo of the 2nd most delicious cheesecake I’ve ever had:

Not forgiven for being MIA? :-(

Sorry for completely going missing the past week. The work induced crazy-busyness has completely ramped up within the last week or so, and when I haven’t been slammed w/ work responsibilities, I’ve been completely booked w/ previous personal plans. Gahhhhh! How do you fellow working bloggers even keep up? I clearly need to plan better…

Anywhosits, I didn’t want to miss a bling-tastic Tuesday…or Wednesday, so here is a new post for your viewing enjoyment! This week I am featuring a polish I found whilst on a search for a brick and mortar retailer that sold butter LONDON nail polish. This was mainly b/c I was experiencing a momentary, lust-induced mania to acquire a few of their fall 2010 colors (swatches: Vampy Varnish). So yeah, I totally didn’t find any of the new colors, but I did find this oldie, but goodie! (Ok, “oldie” may be relative since it was from last year, but it’s not from a new, shiny collection for this fall.)

This little gem is called Henley Regatta and I’d describe it as blue/green glitter in a sheer, teal jelly base. This application took about three coats (maybe four, but I really can’t remember now) and has a coat of Seche Vite on top. I think it would look gorgeous layered over something else, maybe over butter LONDON’s Thames?

The thing that I really liked about this specific glitter is just how alive it looked on the bottle and on the nail. In person, this was just so glittery and shiny and eye-catching!

Well, sadly, that’s all I have for now, but I’ve actually got half of the Fall 2010 China Glaze Vintage Vixen collection (that’s still six polishes) swatched for your future enjoyment once i have time to sit down and edit the photos. Oh, and the Orly Cosmic FX collection too, but I think I’m going to have to redo those b/c I took them indoors w/ flash and I just wasn’t able to capture the duochrome-y goodness. So those I’ll redo outdoors.

And please, please stay w/ me for the nail tutorial. I think I may have made this in to more of a project than I originally intended. I had this grand plan to basically provide a work instruction complete w/ photos (I did warn you that it could get ugly!), and have already started executing this plan. I’ve got most of the text written, but I still need to take and edit corresponding photos.

Ok, lovelies, I’m off to bed (but I’m scheduling this to post at 9AM so I’ll be awake again when you read this, LOL) so I can be in top form for a cross-functional meeting I’m holding tomorrow. Wish me luck and have a Bling-tastic Wednesday! :-)

Bling-tastic Tuesday…or Wednesday Vol. 3

Let’s get reeeaaddyyy for the Tuesday (or Wednesday) spectacular bling-tacular!!!!!

Riiiighhhhttt, so, I got home from work late last nite (if left to my own devices, I become a work-ahloic, so this really isn’t much of a surprise on a daily basis), so instead of the nail polish application tutorial I had originally planned for today, you guys can get blingy with it. ;-)

Again, b/c I feel guilty for not delivering as promised, I’m posting photos for two different manicures.

First up I have a nice metallic foil (I’ll admit it, I really like foils!) from Orly called Luxe. This was part of their Foil FX collection that came out earlier this year. It’s still available along w/ a rose colored foil called Rage and a silver foil called Shine from Head2Toe Beauty for $3.75/bottle. I picked this up at Ulta earlier this summer on a whim b/c I thought to myself I didn’t have anything like a gold foil and this fit the bill perfectly!
Orly Luxe

This applied nicely and I didn’t have too much trouble w/ visible brush strokes. This actually made me think of Minx Nails and made me think I could probably do a neat manicure using my Konad stamping tools. Yet another idea for a post. :-)

The next shiny I have for you should be pretty familiar. This was Nfu Oh #45 from yesterday over Zoya America. I thought the red flakies might pop more over a colored base, but I dunno…I kinda like it applied without a colored base.
